Hello, guys. You will figure out how to create a virtual machine in VMware Workstation Pro 15 in this post.
What is a Virtual Machine?
In computing, a virtual machine (VM) is a software computer managed by a hypervisor like VMware Workstation, Oracle VirtualBox, VMware ESXi, MS Hyper-V, Linux KVM and so on. It works like a physical computer. You can install an operating system and application on it. You can use it for services such as Web, Web applications and so on. Also, a virtual machine is easy to clone, deploy and move because they are composed of files.
If we go too deep, it's hard. Just remember two things.
First, a virtual machine is a software computer consisting of files. Second, a virtual machine is managed by the hypervisor.
Creating a Virtual Machine on VMware Workstation Pro
Creating a virtual machine is very easy. There are two configurations: Typical and custom. I recommend using a custom configuration. If you are ready to create a virtual machine, select New Virtual Machine from the File menu as shown below.
When the New Virtual Machine Wizard is running, select custom and click the Next button. Also, set Workstation 10.x for hardware compatibility.
Select the third button in 'Install from:' to select an ISO file for GuestOS installation after virtual machine creation. A guest operating system selects Microsoft Windows.
If you define a virtual machine name, then the location is automatically defined. You can define another location. Select BIOS for firmware type.
You can set up vCPU and memory for a virtual machine(VM). I recommend setting 1 processor, 2 cores and 4GB memory for Windows VM.
You can configure which virtual network adapter (VNIC) of a virtual machine is connected to which virtual network. Set to the NAT and click the Next button. The I/O controller used for a virtual machine is a virtual device. Set the default value and click the Next button.
The disk is a virtual disk. You can also set it as a physical disk if necessary. Set it to the default and click the Next button.
set to the default of 60GB. A few megabytes of a .vmdk file will be created in the virtual machine location. This is a virtual disk for a virtual machine and can grow up to 60 GB.
If the window below appears, press the Customize Hardware button to remove a USB Controller and Printer.
Finally, press the Finish button to create a virtual machine.
You'll see the virtual machines you've created appear in the library area.
And you can see files of the virtual machine as shown below.
Great! Now you've learned the skill of creating a virtual machine. In the next post, you will find out how to install Guest OS on a virtual machine. See you next. Thank you.
